I chanced upon your website and am pleasantly surprised to find that there is such an endeavour in promoting mental health awareness in Malaysia, where you know everything is rather haphazard at the mo and probably for a while to come.
I am a student and am looking to further my studies in Clinical Psychology, most probably in one of the following countries: HK, SG, or AUS. I know that currently there are no regulations wrt practising Psychologists here in Malaysia, unless things have changed while I was away in England.
So my question is, how can I be sure that, after having gained clinical qualifications elsewhere, I can practise here in Malaysia?
Thanks and allow me to congratulate you both on your efforts to reach out to the community on the subject of mental ill-health.
I am a librarian in Isfahan medical science university and I am looking for a psychology consultation center for one of our professors for exchanging information or education or for cooperation about the psychology between two universities. Please let me know if it is possible for you.

Hi! I am a Psychology Graduate who completed my M.A in Industrial and Organizational Psychology in 2000. However, since then, I have been working and actively involved in NGO work particularly for young people. I carry out trainings etc. (which is part of I.O – Training and Module developments).
My question is, I am now interested in finding out how to become a licensed Psychologist in Malaysia.
The last I heard was that there is a draft Code of Ethics that has was submitted to the Board of the Persatuan Psikologi Malaysia last year. No news since then and their website has been inactive for almost a year.
In Malaysia, psychology as a profession is neither regulated through legislation, nor is it a self-regulated profession by any professional body.
I would like to persuade my part time degree in psychology. For your information i was graduated Diploma in Social Science(Counselling) at Tar college.I hope got scolarship or sponsorship to further my study. Please provide me more information regarding my doubts. Thanks you.
Most private institutions will allow you to carry your credits earned in your diploma program to their bachelor in psychology program. However, for scholarship information, you will need to contact the respective universities.
Where should I study in order to gain a qualification in counseling that is recognized by the government? I have a MA in anthropology/sociology from a local university.
Any local government university with a Bachelor or Master degree in Counselor or any foreign university that covers all the area of academic requirement specified by the Malaysia Board of Counselors. Please contact them for a complete list.
You will need to apply to the Malaysian Board of Counselors with your transcript. Since your university is a foreign university, the board will review your transcript to ensure that your program has covered all areas listed in their academic requirements (mostly copied from CACREP, USA). If you are lacking one or more of these areas, you will need to take up extra university courses that cover these areas before you will meet the academic requirement for licensure.
It really depends on the area of psychology that you are interested to pursue and the quality of the program offered by the university as well as its credibility. I’m afraid that your questions is beyond the scope of this blog and you would have to do your own careful research. Fortunately, there is plenty of information on the internet, and with time and effort you will get the information that you are looking for.

Currently, psychology is not a regulated profession in Malaysia, so one cannot be “licensed” as a psychologist in Malaysia.
dear sir/ma’am,
is there any code of ethics for malaysian psychologist but not counselor? and is there any licensing board for psychologist in malaysia also?

Please furnish me info & updates accordingly.
I am sorry, but as this is a voluntary, non-funded website we neither have the resources nor means to furnish you info and updates on this.
